Brooklyn Roots Veterinary Hospital Green Practices

The practice of medicine is not typically an ecological endeavor. The need for sterility in our supplies and surfaces often require the use of plastics and chemicals. In order to minimize our environmental impact we have chosen to keep as many green practices as possible.

In keeping with this goal, we stock re-sterilizable medical supplies even when disposable options are more cost-effective. Our washing machine is high efficiency and our laundry detergent, hand soap, hospital surface and floor cleaners are supplied by Ecolab. We have hand dryers and cloth towels in our bathrooms and kitchenette. The water cooler is bottle-less and we supply glasses rather than plastic cups.

In addition, our windows have energy-saving solar shades installed. We have chosen to offer tote bags in place of plastic bags, and our pet waste bags are compostable. In all these ways, and in others, we will continually strive to be an asset to our community, both locally and globally.

You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.
